Welcome to the Schmid Lab

We are a vibrant research group focusing on the tumour microenvironment in cancer. We are located at University of Liverpool in the Department of Molecular and Clinical Cancer Medicine and we are part of the Institute of Systems, Molecular and Integrative Biology (ISMIB).

Our PI Michael Schmid is a Professor of Cancer Biology and Head of the Department of Molecular and Clinical Cancer Medicine. Our lab is studying how non-cancerous stromal cells promote tumour progression and resistance to anti-cancer therapy. Our ultimate aim is to identify new therapeutic possibilities to fight cancer.

To achieve this, we are using a variety of multi-disciplinary methods to study stroma – tumour cell interactions and to identify and validate novel therapeutic targets.
